Self-Priming Pumps
Self-Priming Pumps
Trebles offer both wet and dry self-priming pumps for transfer application for fluids that may contain solids in suspension. Trebles units are used within the agricultural, construction, industrial and process sectors.
Pumps are often located above the level of the liquid to be pumped. In this instance, a pump is required that can evacuate air from the suction side at start-up before commencing its normal pumping mode. Such a pump is considered to be self-priming.
The pump reduces pressure at its inlet to a level, lower than the air pressure acting on the liquid surface. Sufficient pressure differential is required to overcome gravity, pipe friction loss and vapour pressure to ensure that it is constantly filled with the liquid.
In principal, all positive displacement pumps are self-priming. For self-priming centrifugal pumps, the pump design ensures that the impeller and seal are always submerged in liquid inside the pump.
